It’s Saxon Week between 12th-18th August and here’s what you can look forward to:

ALL WEEK:

Garden games in the park. FREE with an annual pass.

CRAFT ACTIVITY:

Monday 12th August, 10.30am-12.30pm.Decorate a Saxon banner to take home. £2 per person with an annual pass (payable on the day).

MUSEUM WEDNESDAY: Wednesday 14th August, 10am-3pm

With a ‘Life in the Farmhouse’ theme, you will:

  • Compare modern household items to ones from the past and have a go at using some
  • Discover everyday recipes and take home your favourite ones to try
STORYTELLING: Thursday 15th August, 11am & 2pm

The story of Beowulf read in the Long House. FREE with an annual pass.

LIVING HISTORY DAY: Friday 16th August, 10am-3pm

in the Viking Village. Day includes a wattle and daub demo, storytelling at 11am & 2pm – story of Alfred the Great – and bone working, woodworking and, Anglo-Saxon writing techniques and manuscripts. Optional brooch making at £2 per person (payable on the day).

REENACTMENT EVENT: Saturday 17th – Sunday 18th August

Join the Danelaw Villagers and Havamal as they live daily life as it would have been over a thousand years ago. FREE with an annual pass.

CRAFT CLUB: Sunday 18th August, 10.30am-12.30pm

FREE with an annual pass.

TRAINS: Sunday 18th August, 11am-4pm

The Derwent Valley Light Railway will be running passenger trains. FREE with an annual pass.
