Our Living History sites are used for educational days during the week. They are open to the public at weekends.
Our Viking village at Murton Park provides an authentic and engaging backdrop for pupils to explore what life was like for Viking settlers.
Through a series of interactive activities, pupils will learn about Viking food, games, and daily tasks.
Your group will dive deep into history in a way that’s fully immersive, memorable, and fun.
After an introductory talk that sets the scene and introduces the key concepts of Viking life, pupils will spend the day living and working in our Viking village – and prove to the Lord or Lady of the village that they have the necessary skills to be an asset!
Activities include:
Discover what Vikings ate and learn how to grind flour.
Play traditional Viking board games and understand their cultural significance.
Create Viking-style pottery and learn about its role in daily life.
Try out typical daily life, bringing the reality of the time period to life.
Take turns on guard duty and learn how to defend the village from potential attacks.
This full-day, immersive experience runs from 10am to 3pm.
And yes, pupils can get all dressed up too. In fact, we encourage it and even provide costumes.
Perfect for smaller school groups (min. 24, max. 30 pupils) to spend the day learning about life as a Viking settler. Included in the day are the activities listed above apart from Guard Duty. Instead you will see a Viking Long Boat and hear a Viking story come to life. A full day lasts from 10am until 3pm. Click the link below to book for smaller groups.
