T&Cs

Admission prices give unlimited return visits for 12 months and unlimited rides on the Derwent Valley Light Railway (when passenger trains are run during standard opening hours and not special event).

Please note that Admission prices include entry to the whole site, but during school term time there may be limited or no access to the living history sites. Free entry for Blue Peter Badge card holders and Young Archaeologists Club members. This excludes Christmas Events. We also reserve the right to exclude or add additional charges for certain special events.

Well behaved dogs on a lead are very welcome on site but they are not allowed in any of the buildings. We also ask that you clean up after your dogs.

Please note: Murton Park is a no smoking site therefore smoking is not permitted within the park.

Gift Aid

We would be very grateful if you would consider making a Gift Aid declaration when you visit. It is at no extra cost to yourself and takes seconds to tick the box. Gift Aid is a government scheme, which enables charities to reclaim the basic rate tax you have paid as a UK taxpayer, this is an extra 25p for every £1 of the total paid.

This extra income is very important to small independent museums like ourselves and helps ensure that we can continue to keep Yorkshire’s farming history and heritage alive for future generations.

Facilities

THE PARK COVERS APPROXIMATELY 14 ACRES OF MOSTLY FLAT TERRAIN, CONNECTED BY A SERIES OF PATHS AND TRACKWAYS OF VARYING SURFACES

The reception building houses our admissions desk and shop, toilets, The Yorkshire Barn Café (open Monday – Sunday) function rooms and library. Access to the library (open by appointment) is via stairs only. The bulk of the museum collection is housed in three main gallery buildings. The Four Seasons building has stair and wheelchair lift access to the upper mezzanine housing the WLA exhibition and photographic gallery. The Livestock Gallery has ramp access and is on a single level and The John Sawkill Building is on a single level.

There is a large picnic area and a number of picnic tables outside. The playground is located opposite the picnic spot and there are toy pedal tractors for children (under 8s). In bad weather, those bringing a picnic can eat indoors in the atrium space.

Toilets are located in the reception building and a toilet block is also open towards the back of the site. Both of these facilities have a disabled cubicle. Baby changing facilities are available in the reception building. Hand washing facilities are available at various points around the site.

Your visitor information sheet (given to you on arrival) features a map of the site and the facilities are indicated on this.

Accessibility

Whilst we make every effort to make our site accessible and wheelchair friendly, the nature of some of the outdoor areas and the surfaces of the trackways may present difficulties for those requiring certain kinds of mobility aid or wheelchair. A number of our main tracks have loose gravel surfaces and some surfaces in the Viking village can be slippery in wet weather.

Certain areas of the Nature Trail are inaccessible in bad weather. Please ask at reception for details when you visit.

Please feel free to contact us to discuss any particular access requirements or issues.
